About these results

* Average speeds are based on the download speed available to at least 50% of customers with this product during peak time (8 to 10pm). Your actual speeds depend on factors like your connection type, area, time of day and distance from the telephone exchange.

§ Order before 8pm for next working day delivery. To find out more about delivery times, please check the provider site for more details.

Deals are subject to local availability and may not be available to existing customers. You can confirm availability and estimated speeds for your property on the provider’s website - this may be different to what we show.

Some providers may increase monthly costs each year during your contract, in line with the retail or consumer price index. Check their terms before signing up.

How our site works

Uswitch services are provided at no cost to you, but we may receive a commission from the companies we refer you to. This helps to keep our site free for you to use. Sometimes we have commercial agreements with providers to highlight deals that we think are worth your consideration. These deals are labelled 'sponsored'.

Sky is the UK's second-largest internet provider behind BT. It offers great deals with a wide range of internet speeds, from 35Mbps to near-gigabit speeds of 900Mbps via the Openreach full fibre network.

Given its renowned TV service, Sky is enjoyed by millions and continues offering new, innovative TV products. In addition to its Sky Q satellite TV service, Sky offers a smart TV, Sky Glass, and a streaming box called Sky Stream.

These new products don't need a satellite dish; they access Sky content through Wi-Fi instead. Once satellite TV is phased out and broadband becomes the main way we access pay TV shows — like with streaming services — this looks to be the future of Sky's TV service.

And since it now offers ultrafast and 'gigafast' broadband speeds to support its more streaming-focused TV products, Sky's broadband and TV services have never been more powerful.

Types of Sky broadband deals

Most Sky Broadband deals use the Openreach part-fibre broadband network, for which you'll also need to include phone line rental to access those Wi-Fi deals unless you opt for Sky Full Fibre broadband service.

If you want a good idea of whether Sky broadband is right for you, read our in-depth review.

Broadband-only

Sky offers ultrafast full fibre offer through Openreach's FTTP network that connects high speed fibre-optic cables right to your home. So a copper phone line may not be required if this type of connection is available at your home.

The provider offers its part-fibre offer as a broadband-only deal too. All Sky broadband deals come with the option of Sky Broadband Boost and its Wi-Fi Guarantee. This gives you your money back if you can't get reliable Wi-Fi in every room.

If you're looking for a simple, no-frills broadband connection for working from home and watching Netflix or Disney Plus, broadband-only would be your best bet.

TV and broadband

Sky is best known for its award-winning digital TV services. Adding TV to your Sky broadband plan gives you access to a huge range of channels.

The standard Sky Signature TV service features over 300 channels, including Sky Atlantic, where some of the biggest TV hits are shown.

You have the option to add Sky Cinema, which offers 11 dedicated channels, plus a new premiere every day, and Sky Sports, where you can pick and choose which sports channels you'd like access to, or take the whole 11-channel bundle.

Broadband and home phone

Sky is also one of the most popular broadband providers for home phone services.

Its standard offer includes unlimited evening and weekend calls to UK landlines and mobiles, with per-minute charges applying for calls outside these hours.

You can add unlimited anytime calls or international services to your plan for a small additional monthly fee.

TV, phone and broadband

If you're a regular user of all three, you can bundle them into a single package too. This will likely be much cheaper than paying separate providers for each.

Sky Talk unlimited evening and weekend calls are also included as standard with any of its TV and broadband deals.

Plus, anytime and international services can be added to the service for a small monthly fee.

Sky fibre broadband speeds

Sky only offers fibre internet, so it doesn't have a standard copper offer with 11Mbps broadband speeds. Its deals start with part-fibre speeds of 36Mbps but rise to 900Mbps in specific locations.

Here are the different broadband speeds you can get from Sky.

Sky Superfast broadband - 61Mbps average speeds

Sky Superfast broadband offers a widely available part-fibre broadband connection, which is an excellent option if you're looking for fast, reliable broadband.

This means that instead of traditional copper phone lines, most of the connection's journey is serviced by fibre cables, which offer faster broadband and cause fewer connection issues.

This speed is ideal for average-sized households who want to stream, share and game without slowdown at any time.

If you can get full fibre broadband, Sky Superfast is available on that network for 75Mbps average speeds.

Sky Full Fibre broadband - up to 900Mbps average speeds

Using Openreach's growing full fibre network, Sky's Full Fibre broadband deals connect fibre directly from the broadband exchange to your home for even faster and more reliable internet than superfast fibre. They offer average download speeds of 145Mbps for Full Fibre 150, 500Mbps for Full Fibre 500, and 900Mbps with Full Fibre Gigafast.

150 and 500 are great options for heavy broadband users and large households where multiple devices are used to game online or stream video simultaneously.

If you work with large files, enjoy streaming in 4K, or play high-quality online games, Sky broadband Ultrafast will make all this easier than ever.

Sky Full Fibre Gigafast is the provider's fastest broadband package. It offers 900Mbps average speeds, similar to the fastest deals from other full fibre providers.

Sky broadband for streaming

Though the majority of Sky TV is still delivered via satellite dish, some of its features such as catch-up, on-demand and boxsets require a broadband connection to stream content. Not to mention the fact that services like Netflix, Disney Plus and Amazon Prime can all be streamed via your Sky Q set-top box (provided you have an account with them).

The recommended minimum speed for streaming is 3Mbps for standard definition content and 5Mbps for HD. If you want to stream smoothly in 4K ultra high-definition, however, you'll need a minimum speed of 25Mbps.

This applies to a single device streaming one piece of content, so the more devices you want to use at the same time, the faster your speed will need to be.

Sky broadband for gaming

The headline speed you need for gaming is fairly low — Xbox, for instance, recommends a speed of just 3Mbps for playing online.

However, if you want the best broadband for gaming, you'll need to consider a few other factors.

If you want to download digital games to your PC or console, some of which may be over 100GB, you'll need much faster speeds than this if you want it to finish in a reasonable time. So a fibre connection of at least 30Mbps should be the minimum. Faster connections with lower latency also reduce the risk of lag interfering with your gaming.

If you're a regular gamer or live in a house with gamers, you'll want to consider Sky Full Fibre Broadband with speeds of around 145Mbps or 500Mbps, your gameplay is less likely to be interrupted.

What's the Sky internet speed in my area?

Over 97% of the UK has access to Sky's part-fibre broadband, but its ultrafast deals are not as widely available. So, depending on what's available at your property, your maximum Sky speed would be 61 (or 75) Mbps if you can get Sky Superfast or 900Mbps if you can access Sky Full Fibre.

Exact speeds will differ depending on a user's location, with various factors contributing to a home's performance. Sky has signed up for Ofcom's voluntary broadband speed Code of Practice. This means that before you sign up for a service, you'll get a personalised estimate of the exact speed your home should be able to receive.

If your performance doesn't meet these minimums and the firm can't fix it within 30 days, you'll be able to cancel your contract and switch to another provider without the cost of a penalty.

For an extra £5 a month, you can also enjoy Sky's Broadband Boost service. This provides daily checks on your line to spot any problems, flexible engineer visits and Sky's Wi-Fi Guarantee, which ensures you'll get great wireless connectivity in every room of your home or your money back.

The best way to determine Sky’s broadband speed in your area is to use our broadband postcode checker. It will tell you what offers are available and the expected speeds.

Sky broadband installation

You likely won't need an engineer to install your connection, but certain Sky services will require an engineer visit.

I've chosen Sky Superfast Broadband, Sky Glass or Sky Stream TV

If you've selected a Sky Superfast broadband plan, set-up should be very straightforward because all that's needed to connect your home is your home phone line and your new router. In fact, you could self-install your broadband without ever needing to get an engineer to visit your home.

This is also the case with its TV products Sky Stream and Sky Glass (unless you need it wall-mounted). These will only need a home setup to get up and running because they only need to connect to a power source and your Wi-Fi.

I've chosen Sky Ultrafast, Sky Gigafast or Sky Q TV

If you've chosen a Sky Ultrafast or Gigafast full fibre broadband deal, you will likely need an engineer to visit your home and set up the connection. This is because they require a fibre-optic cable to be installed at your property (unlike Sky Superfast deals which use your existing phone line).

However, this is still usually a simple and convenient process. You'll be able to select a specific date for the engineer to visit, and it shouldn't take them more than a couple of hours to get it done.

Also, if you've signed up for Sky Q satellite TV in recent years, you may have needed an engineer to visit and install a satellite. But the provider is now planning on phasing this out in favour of its streaming products Sky Stream and Sky Glass, which only need a Wi-Fi connection.

Sky Q hub router

Sky Q Hub router

Sky's flagship router is the Sky Q Hub, which has won rave reviews for its performance, especially in ensuring a reliable connection throughout your home.

Available as standard with Sky’s fibre broadband deals, the router uses the advanced 5GHz band for faster Wi-Fi performance and can even be connected to a Sky Q set-top box via your home's internal wiring.

Sky Q Hub set-up

Setting up the Sky Q hub should be simple, as everything you need is included in the box. You can connect the included cables to your home's master phone socket and a power supply.

However, if you need more help, Sky's online support page offers simple step-by-step walkthroughs for the Sky Q hub and the other routers Sky offers.

Sky broadband customer service

There are several ways to contact Sky customer service.

The firm's website has a wide range of online FAQs covering everything from set-up queries to security primers. You can also get assistance via Facebook Messenger, SMS, email, or phone.

Sky broadband customer service phone number

To speak to a Sky customer service agent, call 0800 759 1467. This service is free for Sky Talk customers or will be charged at the same rate as 01 or 02 numbers for other users. Lines are open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. weekly.

Sky broadband FAQs

How much is Sky broadband?

Sky doesn't offer the absolute cheapest deals on the market, but it often makes up for it with a comprehensive, reliable internet service and very easy access to some of the best TV content available.

NOW Broadband, Sky's sister company, offers cheaper deals and similar access to premium Sky TV content. However, you might miss out on some of the additional broadband features you get from Sky, such as its Wi-Fi Guarantee.

Is BT cheaper than Sky?

BT and Sky are the two biggest broadband providers in the UK, and therefore their prices tend to be roughly the same.

The price differences between the two will be its most significant when you add additional services like digital TV. In this case, BT is often cheaper than Sky because it typically offers fewer channels and services.

Does Sky fibre broadband use a BT line?

Sky broadband runs on the Openreach network, which is owned by BT.

This means that Openreach is the company that is responsible for installing and maintaining Sky connections to your home. It does not mean that you need to have a BT account or BT landline in order to use Sky Wi-Fi.

Who has better broadband, Sky or BT?

Both Sky and BT are known for the quality of their internet services. They regularly appear at the top of customer satisfaction surveys and are regular recipients of Uswitch broadband awards in various categories.

BT offers a wider range of average broadband speeds from 10Mbps to 67Mbps, and Sky internet is often priced slightly cheaper.

Is Virgin better than Sky broadband?

Virgin Media offers some of the fastest broadband speeds widely available across the UK. However, Sky broadband's part-fibre deals are much more accessible than Virgin Media, and the option to bundle in Sky TV means it’s still one of the UK’s most popular broadband providers.
