Full fibre (or FTTP) broadband uses modern fibre-optic cables to deliver the fastest and most reliable connection - even at peak times.
Copper (or ADSL) broadband is the oldest and slowest type as it relies on older copper phone lines. The condition and length of the copper can affect your connection’s speed and reliability.

About these results

* Average speeds are based on the download speed available to at least 50% of customers with this product during peak time (8 to 10pm). Your actual speeds depend on factors like your connection type, area, time of day and distance from the telephone exchange.

§ Order before 8pm for next working day delivery. To find out more about delivery times, please check the provider site for more details.

Deals are subject to local availability and may not be available to existing customers. You can confirm availability and estimated speeds for your property on the provider’s website - this may be different to what we show.

Some providers may increase monthly costs each year during your contract, in line with the retail or consumer price index. Check their terms before signing up.

How our site works

Uswitch services are provided at no cost to you, but we may receive a commission from the companies we refer you to. This helps to keep our site free for you to use. Which broadband providers are available in Falmouth?

Homes in Falmouth have access to the vast majority of broadband providers that are available across the rest of the UK.

Almost every property will be able to enjoy part-fibre broadband from all Openreach providers. This includes BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Plusnet, Vodafone, NOW and more. And a large proportion of Falmouth properties will also be able to get full fibre broadband from Openreach’s fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) network, which offers ultrafast broadband speeds from these same providers.

Virgin Media is not available in Falmouth or any other location in Cornwall. Neither is the full fibre alternative network CityFibre, which supplies deals from smaller providers like 4th Utility, Cuckoo, Yayzi, YouFibre, Zen and more.

This means that most of the providers that are available in Falmouth are the same ones that you can get in most other areas of the UK. Some regions have a prominent alternative provider supplying broadband to their particular location, but so far, Falmouth doesn’t have one of its own yet.

Providers in Falmouth

Here's a selection of UK broadband providers available on Uswitch that have services in Falmouth.

Is full fibre broadband available in Falmouth?

Yes. The vast majority of full fibre connections available in Falmouth are supplied by the Openreach network, which many of the UK’s biggest providers share. You can get full fibre broadband from all of the above providers that use the Openreach FTTP network.

Alternative full fibre provider FibreNest has some availability in a small neighbourhood on the outskirts of Falmouth. Another provider, Wildanet, isn’t available in Falmouth but has full fibre connected in nearby towns such as Constantine, Redruth and Gloweth.

Openreach has said that the ‘main build’ of its full fibre network in Falmouth has been completed. This likely means it is already widely available across Falmouth. So, if you check your address on our broadband postcode checker, you should be able to access this faster, more reliable type of broadband from this network.

The easiest way to tell is to check the speeds on offer and the names of the deals in your postcode’s results. If you can see packages with over 100Mbps average speeds, then it means full fibre will be available at your home. Many of the packages will also have ‘Full Fibre’ in their name.

100Mbps broadband

What’s the fastest speed I can get in Falmouth?

Since full fibre is widely available in Falmouth, the fastest speed you could likely get as a Falmouth resident is nearly 1Gbps - an extremely fast speed that’s usually reserved for providers’ most expensive packages.

TalkTalk offers a 944Mbps average speed with its ‘Unlimited Full Fibre 900’ deal, Vodafone supplies 910Mbps with ‘Full Fibre 910’, and both Sky and Plusnet offer 900Mbps tiers.

It’s worth noting that this speed is a lot faster than most households would need currently. If you’re living alone or with one other person, speeds between 50-100Mbps will usually work just fine. And the majority of large households could still easily get away with a 100Mbps+ deal too.

The main reason you’d need a 900Mbps+ deal is if you rely on the fastest broadband as an essential. For example, if you’re a competitive gamer, content creator, or you rely on extremely fast downloads for productivity when working from home (like a graphic designer).

However, if you can’t get full fibre, the fastest speed you could likely get is about 70Mbps. This is still plenty for many households, but it’s a much more reasonable ‘fastest’ speed to choose as this isn’t an excessive amount with a larger price tag.

Most areas of the UK have a similar set of providers available, but some areas may differ when it comes to alternative broadband networks. Search for broadband deals in other locations across the country.

Is 5G broadband available in Falmouth?

As many residents may already know, Falmouth has quite a low amount of 5G coverage. The only mobile network with a reported 5G signal in Falmouth is EE, and its coverage is patchy. This means EE will likely offer some form of 5G broadband for those covered by its network, but it might not provide the same connection strength as a fixed-line broadband option.

This said, EE’s coverage map appears to show a stronger 5G signal in areas of Falmouth with fewer full fibre connections. So, if you’re a Falmouth resident who can’t get full fibre broadband, it might be worth checking your address with EE to see if you can get a 5G mobile broadband deal instead.

Just keep in mind that mobile broadband connection strength using an in-home hub is often more inconsistent than a fixed broadband cable. So you might be able to enjoy better speeds in theory, but it’s more of a gamble as to how often you’ll actually reach the quoted speed with a 5G broadband connection.

Our expert says

“If you live in Falmouth, there’s good news when it comes to full fibre. There is very good coverage of full fibre broadband across the town, which means many residents will have access to the fastest, most reliable type of broadband in the UK.

If you’re not able to get full fibre, though, Falmouth (and wider Cornwall) has a good amount of Fixed Wireless Access broadband coverage provided by Wildanet. This could be your next best bet for getting broadband faster than 100Mbps.

Otherwise, there are part-fibre speeds up to 70Mbps that would still work just fine for many households.”

Alternative networks available in Falmouth

There are only two alternative broadband networks available in (or near) Falmouth, and their coverage is very limited.

Wildanet has a few pockets of full fibre in neighbouring towns to Falmouth, and according to its website, it plans to roll out full fibre connections to Falmouth in the near future. But for now, it offers ‘fixed wireless access’ (FWA) broadband to Falmouth and much of Cornwall. This relies on mobile broadband technology, but it usually has better signal strength than standard mobile broadband.

FWA broadband is more reliable than a normal mobile broadband hub because it is transmitted to an antenna that’s installed on your property, which then connects to your router at home with a wired connection. This avoids thick obstacles like walls and other buildings that can impact a normal 5G connection if you’re trying to connect an in-home hub to it.

FibreNest is the only other alternative provider available in Falmouth, but it only covers a small number of properties in the Bickland area of the town. The rest of Falmouth’s full fibre coverage is provided by the nationwide Openreach network.
