As Derry/Londonderry is part of Northern Ireland, it has been lucky to have had a strong presence of full fibre broadband for much longer than other UK countries. Full fibre coverage in Derry/Londonderry is mostly supplied by Openreach, which has the biggest fibre-to-the-premises network in the UK. But there is also good full fibre availability from an alternative provider called YouFibre.

You can also get similar speeds to full fibre with Virgin Media, which offers a different type of ultrafast broadband to many homes across the city too.

Can I get 5G broadband in Derry/Londonderry? 

In order to enjoy a good 5G broadband connection, you need to ensure the network you choose has a good indoor 5G signal where you live. This is often mentioned separately to outdoor signal because 5G can often be impacted by buildings & walls - so 5G broadband is often only worth it if the signal is also strong inside, where your router will be.

Here’s a quick rundown of 5G signal strength in Derry/Londonderry by network:

  • EE: Strong indoor 5G coverage along the riverside in the city centre, and also near Brandywell.
  • Vodafone: A pocket of strong indoor 5G coverage in the city centre east of the river.
  • O2: O2 boasts very good 5G coverage across the whole city, except for the area near the Blighs Lane Industrial Estate. However, the network says indoor signal strength may be limited across the region.
  • Three: No reliable indoor 5G signal in the city.
